The CEF curriculum

Learning that leads to life and work

A two-level pathway built for Liberian classrooms. Level 1 Foundations gives every learner practical knowledge for life. Level 2 Skills Academy turns it into career-linked skills.

Level 1

Foundations: five courses for life

Each course has 12 lessons of 60 minutes in 4 modules, followed by a 4-week community project. Every lesson follows the same five steps (Hook, Learn, Do, Reflect, Act) and runs without electricity, using chalk and local materials.

STEM

Science, maths and problem-solving through hands-on experiments with local materials.

Climate Action

How climate change affects Liberian communities, and practical action learners can lead.

Agriculture

Soil, seeds, compost and school gardens: growing food and income sustainably.

Health and Well-being

Hygiene, nutrition, safety and healthy habits for learners and their families.

Mental Health

Understanding emotions, managing stress, supporting friends and knowing where to get help.

Built for every classroom

Lessons include notes to adapt for younger and older learners, quizzes and a community project, so schools can use them with different ages and community groups.

Level 2

Skills Academy: five career-linked tracks

After Level 1, learners choose a track: 12 workshops of 90 minutes (Brief, Learn, Build, Test, Log), four skill badges, a 4-week capstone project, a CEF certificate and the CEF Innovation Showcase.

CEF Young Engineers

Design, build and test simple machines, circuits and solar-powered solutions.

CEF Young Entrepreneurs

Spot a community need, plan a small business, keep records and pitch the idea.

CEF Green Innovators

Climate-smart farming, water, waste and renewable-energy projects for the community.

CEF Digital Creators

Digital literacy, coding basics, media creation and safe, responsible use of technology and AI.

CEF Life and Technical Skills

Practical trade skills and work readiness: communication, teamwork, money and next steps into TVET or work.

Pathways after Level 2

Tracks connect learners to the next step: university, technical and vocational training, a job or their own small business.

For schools

Three ways to bring CEF to your school

Public, private, community and faith-based schools, TVET centres and youth organizations anywhere in Liberia can sign up.

CEF trains your teachers

CEF trains and coaches your staff to teach the courses, with course books, the Facilitator Manual and support visits.

CEF delivers at your school

CEF facilitators teach the courses or tracks at your school on an agreed timetable.

After-school or holiday programme

Run Level 1 or a Level 2 track as a club, a vacation camp or a community programme.

What your school receives

  • Course books and lesson plans for every course or track
  • Facilitator training and the CEF Facilitator Manual
  • The CEF Life-Ready Classroom page, with facilitator and student views
  • Materials lists built around local, low-cost items
  • Quizzes, project rubrics and a simple progress report
  • Skill badges, certificates and a place at the CEF Innovation Showcase for Level 2
  • Support visits and safeguarding guidance from CEF staff

Costs and safeguarding

Costs depend on the delivery option, the number of learners and the materials needed. We agree them with each school before anything starts, and work with partners and sponsors to keep the programme affordable for community schools.

All CEF staff and facilitators follow CEF's Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. Each partner school names a safeguarding focal point.
